Of course then there's
the release of a CD, which people can buy.
"Yeah. I was just pissing about, having a laugh,"
laughs Barry. "It's the best way to start you know. We
never had any real big ambitions business wise or industry wise.
It was always just lets go play in a room and see the reaction
on people's faces when we start our song and after we leave
the stage after 7 minutes because that's how long the gigs were.
So it was like kind of like a bomb exploding or something like
furious face melting punk rock music."
Things have changed over time, especially with the band soon
to be releasing their third album from which they've chosen
to release the bass driven 'Beginning of The Twist'.
"It's one of those songs the producer really kind of did
his work on. He would tell us that it could really be anthemic.
That we just needed to play it like it's anthemic."
Barry continues to explain the structure of the song.
"The chorus needed to be really driving and as you say
quite bassy but all the bass needed to get sucked out of the
verse so it became very light and built back up with the chorus,
which hits you like a tonne of bricks. That's what we went for
on that song. After we done that I suppose the album took a
slight different turn. You know, "Lets make a powerful
album, lets not meander and lets not have too many ideas on
each song"."
The band unfortunately was dropped not too long after their
second album. So how hard was it to find the momentum to write
the third?
"That event was probably the catalyst. We suddenly went
from being pretty depressed, tied into a record deal that we
didn't want to be apart of, in all events in an amount of debt
to a record company who ultimately ..." >> |
