Dust Junkys

"Yeah we always knew. There are a lot of potential singles on the album. It was hard to decide which is going be the one. But I think 'Nonstopoperation', 'Living In The Pocket Of A Drug Queen' and 'What Time Is It?' are the singles. I love those tracks but for me there are better tracks on the album. So I was surprised the record company made that choice."

So you don't really choose the singles yourself?

"I do have a say, but if the marketing people say 'What Time Is It?' is going to be the next single, I'll say "Ok go for it". What am I going to say "No, I didn't think to say it first". I'll stand next to any song on the album and if the record company want to pick one, let them pick one. You know they are the record company and they know one or two things about the industry."

'Nonstopoperation' is a great song and the lyrics are great especially "I need coffee like rocket fuel". What was going through your mind when you wrote it?

'It was just a track I wanted to do for ages, about doing tours. D'ya know what I mean? Roads are roads and cities are cities and the bit in between is the same shit every day. Unfortunately that's why we like doing the gigs so much because we do that much travelling. Manchester to London, is probably one of the most frequent trips I make. I'm still living in Manchester. It's taxing and I don't want to live in London because I don't think I'm ready for it. It's a compilation of everything and I usually do need coffee in a morning."

Is the band happy at the moment?

'Yes, I think so. Well if we weren't we wouldn't have come back after Christmas. That would have been the telling point. You know everyone went and did their own thing. It's been a great year though. If the lads went home, chilled out and said "I don't want to do it again. I don't want to come back". It would have been painful, but we're still doing it." >>
