"I've always have been a massive Peter Hook fan. That's one of the reasons I came to be playing the bass. I loved the tunes and the melodies. I also love the more subsonic, rattles the ribcage sound and I try to combine them both. It's not deliberate, it's probably because I'm not very clever and I bought the strap and it was like that and I just put it on. I’m not the biggest of people."

"One of his strengths," begins Andrew "is that Keith doesn't go for the obvious written notes or anything. I find that really important because it adds something."

"You've got be careful, bass playing is like having another drum that holds things down at the lower end of it all," explains Keith. "There's no drum that can get that low and you've got to keep it simple, but tiny little things as a result can sound brilliant. It's a really subtle thing it's the kind of difference between someone like Slash and Johny Marr who play the guitar."

Keith you mentioned you like Peter Hook, what do you think of Monaco?

"I don't comment on things that I'm not really keen on."

But you've just commented on something you’re not keen on.

"I comment on things I really love," states Keith above Andrew's laughter. "Peter Hook for me is a star. I generally believe that Revenge were better than Monaco. If Monaco were on TOTP tonight that would have been all right. TOTP tonight was so bad. As far as I'm concerned no one has an idea what to do with it. It's very disappointing because if it is the number one music show in Europe then there must be some really dreadful shows out there. I remember TOTP when you could get some really magic nights, like when the Stone Roses and The Happy Mondays were on together. Stuart and I were listening to it, but every time there was a song that we didn't like we would switch over to the message service in the hotel......." >>
