Gilby Clarke We've headed to London to meet up with
Gilby Clarke, ex Guns n' Roses guitarist for a quick chat
to discuss his new album 'Hangover'.
"Oh Snakebite.
I used to be in a band called Snakepit," explains Gilby
starting the conversation.
It is explained that Snakebite has witnessed Gilby perform on
several occasions at Rock City and Donnington.
"Oh yeah, Donnington….that was cool," states
Gilby.
Onto the present and how does Gilby feel the 'Hangover' differs
from his first album?
"This is a rock an roll record man. It does differ but
it's still the same style in some ways. On the first record
I have a lot of different styles. There’s a little bit
of pop, roots, blues and rock and I think each song was kind
of like a different style you know. It was very versatile. This
record has a direction. It has a little bit of all those things
in every song. So I think the direction is better. It really
is just like a live rock record."
Once we listened to the album we just wanted to put it straight
back on again. That must be a good sign.
"Thank you! I mean I work hard you know and when you're
writing your songs you want to make a record that you would
enjoy listening to. I don't know if a lot of people do that
these days. I think some people make records for the sake of
selling record, so they make them for the wrong reasons. First
I've got to start with pleasing myself, and then hopefully you'll
reach somebody else."
Is there perhaps a particular "best way" to listen
to 'Hangover'?
"Yes, In your car driving fast," laughs Gilby, the
self proclaimed owner of at least 40 guitars. >>
