The album apparently took seven months to complete, "mixing,
mastering and everything" but were all the songs written before they were
recorded or were some written as part of the moment? "We would do
song for song; it wasn't like we had all the songs and then we chose from them.
We were pretty much just going with the moment, with what we wanted to write about,
what we were inspired by and creating that moment and that piece right and then
we would move onto the next song." The majority of the album was
recorded in Japan in, what appears from the album's sleeve to be, a very relaxed
environment. She laughs as I enquire about the possibility of frequent trips to
the fridge or kettle. "That's pretty much what it was. We recorded
it on the side from our work at Universal Studios. Since we had the spare time
and everything, we thought we might do what I've always wanted to do and make
the album. We did most of the work at his apartment, which was set up as a studio
and everything. It was in this big high condo and it was real cool. We had a lot
of musicians at our disposal, a lot of talented people around so it was a really
good environment to work in. It was really laid back; people would come in, listen
to the songs and make suggestions. There was a good feeling whilst making the
whole album." The album's title seems apt in more ways than one.
There was no deliberation in naming it, no lists of possibilities to choose from.
"You know," laughs Amber. "That was the last thing I was worried
about. Though when Markus did the song 'Feel Good Music' he said right there,
'It should be the name of the album'. At first I was thinking it was kinda early
to decide but when the album was finished and we came back to naming it, we just
thought that was it. The song is pretty much about life. It talks about certain
experiences that people may go through but they may find a part in the music to
relate to." >> |
