The band has seen their
songs released on Deceptive Records, a label owned by a certain
Steve Lamacq.
"There was that thing," quips Steve. "If you're
on Deceptive you get played by Lamacq."
"Yes, but we were played by Lamacq before we signed with
Deceptive. He played our first demo tape on his unsigned band
of the week thing. Now that was a blinding moment!" states
Rick.
I guess you got the advance notification of being played. Were
you all huddled around the radio anxiously waiting?
"No we weren't. As soon as the song was played the phones
started to ring. We tried to call each other but the phones'
were all engaged. It just went mad. It was a great feeling though,"
laughs Steve.
"It was wicked. It keeps you going, all the little things.
We write all these things and then something small will happen.
We got this fan letter from this guy and it went "Your
lyrics have changed my whole outlook on life and for this I'd
really like to thank you". It's cheesy to say, but that's
the reason why you do it, well for me anyway. Having that well,
like I said it's the little things," admits Rick.
I suppose that with the airplay the local papers would have
had a field day, declaring that it was the beginning of you
being massive?
"I don't know about that. If we were massive, I think we'd
be really bad at being massive," laughs Rick.
With the connection to Steve Lamacq from the label and what
he is known for achieving on the Evening Session for new bands,
did Deceptive help you out? Point you in certain directions?
