"Yeah it was nice to be able to have a sort of small
underground limited edition release to get you started. I
don't like the idea of getting chucked straight into the limelight
and having to prove yourself straight away. I like the idea
of slow development and Deceptive is really good for that,
" says Rick.
So is there a particular way you want the band to be perceived?
"We've sort of been about motivation, " begins Steve.
"It's a small town where we're from and everyone seems
content in doing what they're doing. We've always known what
we wanted to do."
Rick explains his own thoughts. "Before, I just looked
at my friends and pretty much all of them had a dream of something
that they always wanted to do. These days especially, people
are scared to go for what they want to do and go for the safe
option. At the end of the day in wasn't necessarily you can
do it if you try hard enough. We've been knocked back so many
times in the past. You know people have said we're never going
to get anywhere. That would have put off a lot of people but
the whole idea of ours was just to say it's "all about
determination". That's why we called the mini album 'Stamina'.
The whole vibe behind all the lyrics is real determination,
whatever anyone tells you and how much you get put down at
the end of the day you have to have the confidence to do what
you want to do and not what society tells you to do."
I saw a local Bedford band the other day who have been sponsored
by Matlows the people who make the Loveheart sweets. Would
you consider sponsorship at all?
"It would have to get pretty desperate. We played with
a band called 'Morning After' and Alka Seltzer sponsored them.
If you do it in the right way, It can be a bit too cocky.
Compromising your band for something or someone else is too
much I suppose," says Rick. >>
