"When we left for Europe it wasn't with the idea to
make it as a band, it was to travel or busk or whatever."
"It's funny because when we were busking, although we
were booked for separate events like weddings and corporate
events, people were recognising each other from our other
gigs and their friends and family members. Once we came to
ask for a gig at the Temple Bar. At the time we were saying
to ourselves that we shouldn't say that we are buskers but
rather that we had jut arrived from Mexico and that we could
play music. The thing was they knew we were buskers but gave
us the gig anyway."
There had been a few words written that Damien Rice has been
partly involved with the pair's success.
"We stopped busking for winter so that we wouldn't freeze,"
begins Rodrigo. "Damien had seen us play and had been
a fan then helped us with one gig.
He himself then started growing in Ireland and then invited
us to support his gig. Though it was kind of tough because
we were supporting Damien Rice but
it really worked and then we came back toured again with a
traditional Irish band. All that took two years. We decided
that when we left Mexico City we
were never going to go looking for a record deal again."
It's a feeling echoed by Gabriela. "We did that with
our old band. So we would rather fucking concentrate towards
playing and being part of the festival than expecting any
other things to happen. We were at the time very fucking good
buskers or whatever, just living for music. If you were meant
to play in this life and you were meant to play an instrument,
just fucking play it. Don't try to do your career and keep
spending money."
Over time the duo would eventually move away from busking.
