The actual process of writing the album was partly to blame
for the delay. After all they are a big group. It was recorded
in a studio in Subic, a coastal village that would cause a
distraction for tourists, especially scuba divers.
"For rehearsals, the studio is already set up. When we
recorded the album, each member was called in one by one to
record." Jay pauses and then laughs, "and then I
will change it."
He is only joking and as shown, with Filipino radio hits such
as 'Rainbow' and the 2003 EP release 'Best That I Can', where
the lyrics were incidentally written by Sharon, the best comes
to those who wait.
Lead singer Vincent, adds to the melting pot of influences,
citing 'Killing Jake' as an influence to his lyrics. "I
will write all my words and then go to the studio and the
boys will help to make them work to their ideas."
So when Vincent was younger did he practise with a hairbrush?
"Yes and shaking hands," he laughs whilst imitating
his childhood moments.
So now how does it compare?
"Now? Now it's a dream come true."
Which reminds me of what Jay said earlier, when asked about
advice for those Filipinos aiming to achieve the same success
as South Border.
"As long as you are true to yourself you are true to
your music."
