Did it have much affect
on your first practice together?
"It was actually was really good fun," laughs Dougie.
"We were smashed," begins Neil. "We were playing
in a tiny wee room above a pub. It was such a good feeling is
was one a great night. It was excellent."
"The first song we played together was 'All I wanna do
is rock'," laughs Andrew. "It was one of those things
that was loose as fuck and it sounded horrible. It probably
sounded horrible. I would like to have heard a tape of it, but
I think it felt right, it was a sought of chemistry thing."
What's the situation with band practices now then?
"We don't practice," they all announce simultaneously
with a surprise glare.
Andrew explains why. "We're on tour at the moment and have
been for most of this year so we don't have time to practice.
No I tell a lie we came in once."
"That was during the Oasis tour, to practice on the B-sides
that we would be playing on this tour," announces Dougie.
"The rehearsal we had for the day took about twenty minutes.
Sound checks are mainly when we practice because we don't get
time to go to a rehearsal room. During the day you do interviews,
do a soundcheck then at night you play."
"Then you get drunk," declares Neil. "It will
be good when we do the next album when we can go in and jam
and get stuff together. That'll be good fun 'cause we can take
a back seat, just hang about in the foyers and get even more
drunk."
What happens if one of you comes up with a song that you feel
is absolutely brilliant? Will you make every effort to get that
song released straight away or are you just going to wait on
it?
"Fran generally writes the songs," starts Neil. "Though
if it's good enough it will be democratically worked upon."
"There's no kind of rush to do anything," exclaims
Douglie inquisitively. "Though I don't completely understand
the question?"
You mentioned getting a good feeling from records. The idea
is say that one of you comes up with a song that is brilliant,
remarkable. Are you going to say "we've got to get this
released straight away"? >>
