"It's hard to
believe that you become closer as friends through being on tour
for that length of time," starts Dougie. "Being on
tour for a month pulls you together, a lot more."
You've been on tour with a variety of bands is there any band
in particular that you've enjoyed being with?
All three members anounce 'Oasis' in unison. "I think Oasis
are a brilliant band," starts Dougie. Sitting in the middle
he looks either side and is greated with nods of agreement.
"Fucking loud though, really loud. They're a great band
and it's obvious that they're touring with songs that have been
around five years, six years."
So they're worth the hype? Now more than ever?
"Oh definitely," begins Andrew. "I think it's
very hard to be cynic. A lot of people are cynical about them,
fair enough if you don't like them. But if you go and see them
live you're standing in a crowd and everyone is going fucking
mental it's hard to be cynical about it all, because it's a
good time, it's a good evening. They're not pretending to be
art rock or anything."
So what's next for Travis? What have you got planned for 1998?
"We're going to tour, play some festivals and go into the
studio and record the album," explains Neil.
"We're all just gagging to get into the studio," starts
Andrew excitingly. "Because the album is made of songs
that were recorded over a year ago."
So you won't be releasing a live album in the middle then?
"That comes later on, like you're fifteenth album,"
laughs Neil.
Andrew appears to have been holding some thoughts in about this
subject "I mean Ocean Colour Scene release one album. Then
they release an album of B-sides, fuck off! It's cashing in
on your album. It's like trying to fill in time before you do
your next album, record another album you lazy gits. We have
a lot of B-sides sitting around and they will eventually get
released in some form or another. Saying that the record company
will decide what gets released. I think it's a sign of laziness
if you don't actually go in and do another album, after one
album as well. Okay if you did five albums, then release B-sides
and rarities. After one fucking album that is a bit much."
