Rob and Junior have played at Ministry Of Sound, Miss Moneypennys,
Weekend Sessions, Dusted, Passion, and Godskitchen to name
but a few and have travelled to Ibiza, Dallas, San Diego and
Miami. There are plans for Australia and we discuss the possibility
of Zouk's in Singapore on their return. I describe the place
when I lived in Singapore from 1991-93. Zouk has changed so
much from the days when 'Right Said Fred' played there and
sold it out. While many people may not travel afar down to
Milton Keynes, Junior is happy to inform that at their nights
people will tell them when they saw them DJ abroad. There
was a time when a DJ would try and push vinyl when arriving
with Ibiza, though with the advance in technology, this would
have changed to CDs and there is of course the possibility
of MP3s.
"When we first started out it was a case of work, work,
work and you're trying to sell yourself," announces Rob.
"You're taking records out and you're trying to get your
records out to people. It's like anything if you want it bad
enough and you're willing to work hard for it, you won't accept
the word 'no'. That's another thing, that people turned round
and said 'no', which inspired us to work even harder and called
for us to try and get them to say 'yes'. Eventually you get
a little opening here and there and we haven't had any help
or no luck along the way. We've created all our own luck.
We've worked our arses off to get where we are and eventually
the right people, if you start mixing in the right circles,
start hearing your music. A lot of our success is down to
decisions Junior made actually, like when we did the remix
of Micheal Gray."
After Rob gives me a little vocal reminder of how the song
went, Junior explains just how happy he was to remix the song.
"That was a brilliant track. We had this track structured
out and everything and the idea to make it more, not like
big beat but something more rock. My biggest passion at the
time was the weekends. I would love to do the original. It
would be good if we could do our own mix of it but we got
the original on vinyl and managed to get the lyrics and strings
off it and it went from there."
