Giant Drag

The recording environment was far from ideal as Annie had mentioned in an interview with 'Red Alert' that, in perhaps a more comfortable environment, whilst preferable, it might make her lazy. If that was the case 'Hearts and Unicorns' might not have been the impressive album many have come to appreciate so much.

The album was recorded in different studios. The drums were, according to an interview by 'Portable Infinite' with Annie, "Recorded in a nice studio at Paramount. The rest was at Downtown Studio. There is a vocal booth. It's the worst place to record. You can hear the other bands in the other rooms. The sound comes through the floor. You walk in the hall and you are bombarded with the shittiest music you have ever heard in your life."

Apparently Annie had mentioned in another interview that the first recording sounded like 'Pink', attributing it to the fact that the engineer did not know what they were supposed to sound like. Perhaps then they wanted to get in and out straight away?

"No we were in there for a long time," begins Annie. "We recorded eighteen songs. We didn't really have any date that it had to be finished by. I took my time."

Annie may have taken her time but she had mentioned previously that the experience had been "painstakingly slow". It seems that writing for the new album may be following suit.

"It's not really going, it's not good," admits Annie.

"We had a few songs and then we started touring a lot so it's pretty much been on hold since then," adds Micah. >>
