"Every gig we do, we really have to prove ourselves,"
continues Soup, "because there are new people all the time that haven't seen
us before. So we have got to play beyond our best and really win these people
over." "There seems to be a mind set where a group of guys
can go up on stage and play a couple of chords," begins Chi on the subject.
"Someone will look at them and say that's a band of musicians. Where as a
girl can go up and be classically trained, just rock on a guitar and everyone
says she's not bad for a girl. We're trying to be a band first and yeah if you
want to pay attention, we're a girl band second." The Hedrons recently
supported Alice in Chains on their only other UK date apart from the Download
Festival, a sold out date at the London Astoria. How many fans would have taken
a particular attention then? "We knew the gig was sold out,"
says Soup smiling. Usually the support band doesn't have much of a crowd, but
my god! We were in the dressing room for ages oblivious as to what was going on.
We took a wee step out onto the balcony and saw that the venue was rammed."
"It was such a great vibe, such a great atmosphere," adds Chi.
"To walk on stage and hear the roof come off the place and they didn't
know who we were," says a happy Soup. "They were just mad for it."
Hopefully the girls will generate enough of their own fans that will themselves
be mad for their own debut album, 'One More Won't Kill Us'.
Under the watchful eye of their producer Kudzuu the girls set about recording
the album in just over a week. >> |
