Sounding very passionate about her music, I wondered if Jem
was one of those paranoid artist's who got up in the middle
of the night to sing?
"D'ya know what? I used to but I'm so tired now I sleep
through the night! I used to get up and sing into my dictaphone
just in case I'd think, 'Ah, that could be a great song.'
Actually no, that's bollocks right," she corrects herself.
"Singing wise I haven't got up but I do often get up
and write lyrics. Recently, really weird, I started having
impromptu poetry, I don't know if it'll end up in a song but
it's quite fascinating. I woke up and a whole poem that like,
completely rhymes from beginning to end just fell out of my
head and I just had to write it down. Isn't that weird?"

choosing the tracklisting for the album?
"We were laughing in the studio when Yoad and I finished.
We were pissing about and making something for the record
label and just ended up picking stuff (tracks) out of a hat,"
recollects Jem. "I was like, 'Wouldn't that just be amazing
if it was just perfect?' but it wasn't. So we listened to
it for ages and tried to work out the ending and the beginning
and eventually it became this kind of journey. I remember
someone told me to pretend that it's the 80's and that it's
a cassette and when you get to the end of the first half you
have got to get a new kick. On mine it's more like at the
end of the album it gets mellower. I think that's nice because
then you get back to the beginning and listen to the first
track 'They' again you go 'Woah!" Then you could probably
listen to the whole album again. Anybody that's been really
involved from the beginning will have been involved with it.
That's what happens, you become anal!"
Speaking of the opening track, 'They' features a 'Bach' sample
